This is a blog dedicated to that beauty, and the story behind it.

You all seemed to be pleased with my Arnold Schwarzenegger post, and I even gained a new follower, so from this I can only surmise that people who like Cornwall also have a fondness for the Terminator.

But anyway, onto business. As we speak, I am busy researching your favourite Cornish things and slaving over the wording of my posts (read: laying around in my onesie, more hungover than I thought humanly possible). All kidding aside, I’m looking forward to starting to properly posting again, and I hope you guys are too! For now, I give you reblogs, and the promise that all the information you ever needed about your favourite English country is coming soon.

And to conclude: I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

silas216:

Only when typing it out did I actually realise it made absolutely no sense, so I’ve decided I’m going to keep it simple for my own sake, and just let you all know the news in words of one syllable: I am back.

Yes, you’re reading it right! After an unforgivably long hiatus, I have returned to your dashboards once again to brighten your day with lovely Cornish titbits (no giggling, please). No, unfortunately there will be no tits, Cornish or otherwise - however, what you will be seeing is bits and pieces of your favourite county, served with a side order of my (obviously) carefully crafted and meticulous research.

On a more serious note, I have been once again pleasantly surprised at your loyalty and perseverance, as, after all this time, I somehow only managed to lose two followers! I’m immensely grateful to you all for sticking around, and I promise you that your constancy (aka forgetting to click the unfollow button, but a girl can dream) shall be rewarded.

I feel it is only appropriate to end this post with some Arnie. So, thank you all once again, and remember: GET TO THE CHOPPER!

(P.S. Extra brownie points for those who understand this: dyw genes, hag nos dha!)

westeastsouthnorth:

I have no facts to base this upon, now. It is merely the opinion of someone who has looked at twelve million photographs of England and I am not exaggerating.

On a random note, it is morning and someone needs to make it stop. I am in dreadful pain here. I spent seven hours yesterday digging and weeding and planting and pulling and rooting around in the garden and now I am very very sorry. You can find this Cornish gem in the south-east of the county, about 4 miles from the town of Looe, and 25 miles from the major naval port of Plymouth. Make no mistake, ladies and gentlemen: this is one of the most beautiful locations you could ever hope to visit, with a jumble of picturesque cottages snugly nestled into the hillside, its narrow roads leading to the harbour, which opens onto the English Channel. So pretty that - as Polperro’s rather sinister village website warns - you might just want to stay forever.

However, don’t let yourself be fooled by its chocolate-box charm - the village was once an absolute hotbed of smuggling, and even today one can still glimpse traces of its nefarious past. Legend has it that a local innkeeper, whose quirk was to transport illicit kegs of brandy in a hearse, was one day discovered by the authorities. Before his death, he is said to have shouted: “If they shoot me dead, my body’ll drive the load to Polperro!” - which it promptly did, his corpse reputedly urging the horses on, until plunging spectacularly into the waters of the harbour. It is said that his ghost to this day still wanders the narrow cobbled streets..

Look, it’s Golitha Falls!
Also, may I just remind you all that I am still taking requests - so if you are desperately craving that certain Cornish something, let me know!

You asked for Cornish walking trails, and that is what...

You asked for Cornish walking trails, and that is what you’ll receive! What you’re seeing here is the Camel Trail, a 17-mile-long route found in northern Cornwall. The trail runs from the beautiful town of Padstow to the hamlet of Wenford Bridge, passing the towns of Wadebridge and Bodmin along the way. Originally this route was a railway, constructed to carry various goods from the ports to inland quarries and farms, and vice versa. Nowadays, however, it now exists as one of the most popular trails in the county, suitable for walkers, cyclists and riders, and used by roughly around 400,000 visitors yearly. One of the many reasons why the Camel Trail is indeed so well-liked is probably the fact that the route itself winds alongside the River Camel, providing an innumerate array of beautiful and yet strikingly diverse landscapes for visitors to feast their eyes upon.

vacilandoelmundo:

The tor has been there, looking sinister, for over 270 million years, and its power to inspire both awe and superstitious fear within the onlooker has meant that the Rock has been incorporated into many Cornish folktales. Perhaps the most famous of these would be the legend of Tristan and Iseult, whose tale of thwarted love has captured both the hearts and imagination of millions. After accidentally ingesting a love potion, the Cornish knight and the Irish princess fall madly in love, but are doomed to spend a lifetime evading Iseult’s husband and Tristan’s uncle, the vengeful King Mark. The lovers supposedly were sheltered from Mark’s wrath by the hermit Ogrin, whose oratory was perched atop good old Roche Rock.
